Default ~Totally New Zenner

Hi all,
Hopefully I posted this in the correct starting spot. I have spent a little time scrolling thru the forums and finding good info but think I am missing a few stops along the way. Plus it is extremely overwhelming at times, so this thread will be my personal starting spot when it comes to accessing this forum.

Where do I start? My designer bailed on me after getting two thirds of the way thru the site. I am left holding the bag and trying to learn Zen cart as well as running the site as well. For the most part the site is functional and most parts are in place but there needs to be changes.

The biggest problem that I have right now is that the Home button on my site kicks the customer to my back panel where my images and stuff are kept. How do I change that? Would I have to change the template itself to get rid of the Home button?

I have other problems that have been posted in here as well from my designer. He logged in as Ditch..I read thru some of the posts and suggestions and try using them in my control panel but with no results.

Another example...I read a thread about changing the welcome email.
When suggestions are read as the following /admin/configure/somthing_this/something_that
when I try to cut and paste a response into my url area I get either a blank screen or an error page. What am i doing wrong? Where do I go to find the info that needs to be changed? I look in my languages file and find nothing there..How do i add things or change things...what is the missing step here?

Is there a nooblet forum that I can check into here? Some sort of class or something lol

Feel free to network with me on this, and if anyone else wants to chime in go ahead. I would like to keep this thread alive as long as possible cuz I am sure there are others like me. I cut and pasted the urls from where my desinger left off if anyone would like to comment as well.

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you.

Goldjobber, I'm sure the people in here will get you straightened out. We'll start with first things, first. You need to go into you hosting Admin (not the ZenCart Admin) section and turn "Indexing" off for your folders. That will take care of your "Home" button showing the index of your site.

After that, we'll go to the next step.

By the way, I just had to laugh (only a little) when you posted you designers' name.......VERY ironic, isn't it, since he "ditched" you?

K so when you refer to hosting admin is that my personal control panel with my webhost ? You say not the Zencart Admin, would that be the list i get here....../store/admin/indexes? when i find this one I get prompted to check into the control panel of zen cart.

Yes, that would be the hosting control panel. Does your host use cPanel<©>, by any chance?

O.k. That's good that you use cPanel, as I'm used to it. So your "pub" folder has an icon with a red mark through it, like this?

yes...*pounds head against wall* i found alot of those files within the control panel. I clicked on the ones that were active. Apparently i mispoke when I stated the indexes were off. They were on. I clicked on a few and turned them off. Guess what. In my url for my site instead of it being the store front..i get a list of files that were used to design the first site. NOt my zen cart based site.
All my categories are still in the zencart admin panel so I aint freakin out yet. I think i just wiped out the files to my store front.
I am tryin to figure out now what i did so hopefully i can undo it..it dont look promising so far....

Ok..a few emails to the tech guys and it seems to be fixed. Whatever it was I did

I was poking around in the index manager in on my webhost and found a couple of files that i turned off. I think maybe i should have a little more understanding of where i should be going in regards to answers posted on here.

Well i now how to get that symbol on a file in the control panel under the index manager. There seems to be alot of files that I could potentially disable. WHere would I start? look for a "home button'file or something?

Looks like your host made sure that everything is right. Your "Home" link works right, now, so I would just leave it as is.
