Query about UPS and international shipping from NZ

Hi all

(NZ means New Zealand)
We are a NZ-based company and the majority of our sales are local, and we have the shipping for that sorted and working

However international shipping is giving us problems as we can't seem to find any modules that are NZ based, if anyone knows of one please let me know

The UPS XML module looks good but I can't find a support thread for it anywhere, and i have looked,

So i will ask my daft questions here

Is there a guide to explain how it (UPS Xml) works, I don't mean the wiki on how to install it, but how it actually does everything

Will it work with NZ as the point of origin?
How exactly does this modules work?
does it work out the shipping charges based on weight or some volumetric system?
how often are the shipping charges updated or are they updated at all?
Do i have to update them individually or is there an updated xml file released every month
