Unusual Shipping Needs

I have two unusual shipping needs to be given on specific products...

Most of the products are easy: You choose "by weight" or you choose "pick up at store."

Then we have the "Frozen" items and the "Fresh" items.

Frozen items need an additional charge, because to ship them you need special packaging, handling, etc. It's more expensive.

Fresh items for delivery can only be done locally - specifically, within a 20-mile radius of the store, and would be given as one of the options on these products.

Is there any way to handle these situations neatly?

If you want to do it the way I think you do, you'll need to do some customization. There's currently no way to customize offered shipping options based on products purchased.

You'll need to add DB fields and accompanying code to [a] identify products as "fresh" or "frozen", then [b] check for the presence of those products before offering shipping, and finally [c] customize the offered shipping options accordingly.

To avoid the codework, the workaround would be to boldly identify fresh and frozen products, then offer accompanying shipping options the per the usual route. All users will see the fresh and frozen options, but hopefully they also saw the alerts about which products apply. I take a similar approach for rush orders.
