Is there a way to copy the weight of one product to a whole range of products in the same category other than manually editing each product?

No, there is not a way to do that easily, but you could make the changes directly in the database if you are comfortable with it. Caution: backup before making any changes.

that's too bad. It would make life so much simpler for things like CD's, DVD's etc which have all the same dimensions and weight...to be able to setup one and have it copied to all the rest would save allot of time and effort.
