Errors trying to add category and product

I'm running a fresh install of 1.3.7 on my Windows machine locally using XAMMP and the demo database.

When I click on "new category" I get this error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function read() on a non-object in H:\XAMMP\xampplite\htdocs\zencart\admin\categories.php on line 716

And nothing else below that.

Also, when I enter a category, for example, Software ---> Action and try to add a new product I get this error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function read() on a non-object in H:\XAMMP\xampplite\htdocs\zencart\admin\includes\modules\product\collect_info.ph p on line 441

And then options starting from "Products Status", so I think I'm missing some things from this screen. Also I'm not seeing any option to enter images for my product on this screen, is this another error?

I tried searching but couldn't find anyone with this exact issue. Thanks in advance for any help.

Try re-installing those files, as they may have been corrupted during a copy or while using de-archiving program.
