Adding another box exactly like Categories box? Thanks for help!

Hi guys,

Glad to be here. I am new to php and this zen cart as well, so it is good to have such a cool place to consult and get your kindly help.

Please see this sample (http://www.tulipbling.com/). Basically, I have two categories, one is Products (such as Shop by Category), the other is Industries (such as Shop by Mateiral). Both of them has two level sub-categories. In a word, the default template has Categories Box in left column when I finished the installation, now I want to add another Box below Categories Box which has the exact function as Categories Box, how could I do that? Please tell the detail steps if possible. :)) Thank you very much for the help!!

There are a couple of ways of adding different categories boxes.

One is discussed in Parent Categories Separated In 3 sideboxes, and is good if you want two or more additional boxes.

The other was described by Ajeh (useful for finding a thread, I know:)(35,000 some posts...) and involves using the "Documents" product type assigned to categories so that products in those categories are handled by the Documents sidebox instead of the Categories box. This would probably be best for you, as long as you don't need to use the documents box for its original purpose.

Well, I took a look at your first solution, it seems a little complicated for me :). So I turned to the second one which seems work for my requirement as you told. However, I looked through all 300 posts by Ajeh but did not find the post you mentioned . Fortunately, you mentioned a little bit about this second solution, but I am not very clear what to do for "using the "Documents" product type assigned to categories so that products in those categories are handled by the Documents sidebox instead of the Categories box.". Well, I did have a try by myself but it did not work out. And I have sample categories installed when I installed zen-cart, so right now there is a Documents category under the Categories/Products, if I click it, it will jump to its page where I can add new product, but there is no "new category" button for adding a sub-category under the Documents category.

Could you please explain your words in more detail? What I want is two categories box, one called Product, one called Industry (some products are in both Product and Industry category). Each category contain two or three level sub-category.

Here's a starter: Any way to add another categories list? This was probably a few thousand posts ago, so it's no wonder you didn't see it.

And you can run an advanced search on user Ajeh, keywords documents categories. Try a few others if you want to narrow or change the focus.

One more question, if I change the document part to be another category as you told, I am wondering if it will also be able to show its sub_category in its box, such as if I click DVD, it will show structure like the below:

DVD
-- music
-- movie
CD
VEDIO
..........

Since I have tried to add product to document, but when I click DVD, the music and movie are not shown in the box below DVD, but shown in the center column. I wish it could show its sub-category in the sidebox as the Categories sidebox does.

The subcategories do not automatically follow in their parents' footsteps - you probably need to add Document-General to them the same way you did to the top cats.
