Show Disabled Products?

My website has around 1300 products. Exact stock levels are not tracked. However out of stock items are checked daily with my supplier. Any out of stock items are then disabled (until they return in to stock).

Now... I was wondering... can I setup these disabled items to be displayed to my customers as 'Out of Stock or Discontinued'?

Stores with one-of-a-kind products may benefit from a showcase gallery for sold items.

This mod allows regular products to be simply moved to one or more designated categories when sold; they will then, in product listing and product info pages, appear without price or add to cart/sold out displays.

Other elements of display can also be turned off or modified following simple coding examples.

This may also be useful for upcoming items which are not yet available for sale.

I was just thinking... since I do not track stock on the website couldn't I just change the quantity of the items.

For example, set the quantity to 1 to allow customers to checkout or set the quantity to 0 to not allow them to checkout and display the out of stock message.

I would also set Zen Cart to not subtract stock levels.

Do you think that would work?

Can someone check if i have used the mod correctly? I have moved one of the products which has been sold out to Sold out products category. But when i click the product it throws up error message as mentioned below. Also it says "New Products For April - Sold Out Products" which i think is stupid. Or I am doing something stupid?

The procedure I followed
1. Created a new category called as Sold out products which gave me a category id 87
2. Modified both the files to reflect 87 instead of 23.
3. Uploaded the files into respective folders in the server.
