2006 MySQL server has gone away

I get this following error EVERY TIME someone tries to confirm their order and return from paypal to the store. This also means that orders doesn't register which is a huge problem for us and we have no explanation or an idea how to fix it. What could I do.. I didn't have this problem before.. it started with our new store and fresh install of the new zen.

Well yep but is there a another solution than to switch hosts then? I mean could I change the cache type or something?
What's different between your "working" site and the one that's not working right?
What settings are different?
What addons are installed?
Are they on the same host?
What has your hosting company said when you reported the problem to them?
