I should've been more specific.
By default it does displays personalized welcome message fine, utilizing /includes/languages/english/index.php.

But I wanted it on Header and that's why the code I initially included above was tpl_header.php file from my template.

I was able to implement alternate header mod that looks somewhat like walmart.com's header and was not able to find the 'code' for php, sql, or the right varible to call customer's name.

Pasting the code from index.php to tpl_header had no luck...
