ARGHHH!
I got it fast.
Replaced the aforementioned line by this one:

 if (SHOW_CATEGORIES_BOX_SPECIALS == 'true' or SHOW_CATEGORIES_BOX_PRODUCTS_ALL == 'true'){
and everything works.
Obviously, you can't put three or statements in a row.
I just replaced NEW by ALL and got rid of the New link.
