discount category pricing by item

I want to set the product pricing structure up at the category level such that the larger quantity of a product ordered the bigger the discount. To achieve the discount the quantity can not be across multiple products. I have about 3000 products and I think ZC only allows you to set the discount pricing up at the product level (which means I would have to do it about 3000 times). Is there a easy way to set the discount pricing up at the category level so all products within the category have the same discount pricing structure?
I have looked at the discount product module and it appears that the discount can be set up at the category level but the pricing would be calculated across all products in that category.

does anyone know if i could set this up using attributes on the product and copy it to all other products?

need a discount pricing structure like this per product

Category A has 600 products. Every product in the category has the same quantity discount pricing structure but the discount can not be mixed between products within that category.

Category A product 1
0-49 = $0.25 each
50-99 =$0.23 each
100-199 = $0.20 each
200 -249 =$0.18
250 + = $0.15

Category B has say another 800 products that need discounts applied per item as well.
Category B product 1
0-99 = $0.25 each
100- 199 $0.23
200-249 $0.21
250 - 499 $0.18
500 + $0.15

Hi,

We have now decided to change our quantity discount to be at the category level (mixed products) so will now use the quantity discounts module.
If anyone else is looking to do what was proposed above at this point in time you can only do it manually on each product.
