Default More Proactive way to prevent Fraud?

We have a coupon to introduce our store to newbies that is for one free item.

Twice now we have had a customer with the same ip addy sign up for an account and redeem, sign up for another account under a different name and redeem... multiple times - UP TO OVER 50 times in a 24 hour period.

What can we do to prevent this kind of fraud?

Is there a way to limit coupon usage by IP address?

Don't give freebies without a required purchase. Be sure your coupon and coupon policies clearly state 1 per person and/or IP address and require Admin approval for downloads to manually verify the "payment".
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

This doesn't really work for us. We do clearly state 1 per person but that is not going to stop someone who is trying to defraud us.

Is there a way to auto-verify new customers similar to what vbulletin does... they have to click on an email link to finish their account set up.

    Please let us know.

Thank you for responding. :) What we have done at this time is to implement a smaller version of this and limit the choices... that way... it isn't as attractive to cheat the system. :)

It would be cool, though, if you would put the email verification feature on a wishlist. :)

    Thank you, again. :)

help question Re: More Proactive way to prevent Fraud?

I also would like to see email verification on sign up. This forum's sign up has email verification and I would love to see that option in zencart. Is this option on the radar screen?
