Account activation in welcome e-mail

Hi

Is there a module that would add an account activation link or/and account activation code into the welcome mail.

To explain a bit more:

I would like to confirm my customers emails by having a link or activation code displayed in the emails they recieve after they create an account at my store. Meaning they would not be able to buy untill their email is verified.

This is a very old post from 2007, but Im having the same problem. We are on October 1st 2010, and maybe it can be solved. (?)

I need my customers to activate their account by clicking a link sent in their "welcome email".

( Like the Newsletter suscription email does )

In this post Kim said is not possible at this time. But probably in 2007 when that message was posted.

Their Zen Cart site has that feature. I tried it and worked!

Im wondering how this peoples did it, but I wonder how!

There's a VERY serious flaw in what you're requesting.

If a customer has added a product (let's say your most profitable product) to their cart and has their credit card in hand and wants to buy the item, then if you ask them for their address details and email address, AND THEN MAKE THEM WAIT for an email AND then click a link in that email (which might even end up in their spam folder) BEFORE you let them complete checkout ... then you're presenting a SERIOUS BARRIER to checkout.

If your site is designed to SELL, then adding email-confirmation as a barrier to checkout is going to basically cut your sales in half ... or worse.

I completely agree. You could add reCAPTCHA on the sign-up page to stop spammers if that is your concern. People generally do not create an account until they are ready to purchase. The advantage of online shopping is that it is quick and easy, but the feature you are requesting would actually slow down the checkout process which is the exact opposite of what you want to be doing.
