help question Adding currencies- what exchange rate to start

    Hi
I originally set my store up with just UK currency but have decided to add US Dollars and Euros. I know how to add the currencies but my question is what is the current exchange rate ie what do i make the value or where may I find them? I've seen the posts about automatically updating them but need a start point
    Thanks in advance

Actually if you set one of the currencies to the default and its value to 1, then you don't need to know anything other than hit the update on the currencies and it will get the latest rates for you ...

    Linda,

On every other cart install I've done, this works but on a cart I'm currently working on - installed on a 1and1.com server, I get an internal server error (500) when I try to update. Have you ever seen this? Do you think it could be the host?

    Thanks,

    Janelle

    Weird ...

Make sure that you have your default set ...

Are you getting any other error message? I am noticing that the update is running slow at the moment ...

Have you tried on another server that you might have access to?

What is the server's errorlog telling you when the 500 error appears?

Thank you both for your responses. Pardon my ignorance, but I see several log files within my account but no error logs and if there were, 1and1 provides no way to view them. I have to say, I see similar behavior with Powweb - but not with Camelot. The scripts seem to run correctly and values are updated.

    Thanks,

    Janelle

The two hosts you mention as not working properly ... are renowned for difficulties. The one you say has no problems ... is a Zen Cart Certified host, and pays attention to making sure things "work" on their servers.

NOTE: I am also getting delays of 30+ seconds on update of currency and your server could just be timing out or throwing errors etc.

If you try to update 6 times over 5 minutes does it work?
