Losing customers at login

I've sit here and watched while 10 customers abandoned their carts after getting to the log in screen. After looking at my log in screen the only thing I can think of id that the new customer information section is to far down and they just don't see it. Having it below the crease as they say may be a bad idea. Does anyone know how to I could arrange this better? I'd like to move the google checkout up to right under logon but I don't know how to do it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also just a thought could it be bots that are picking items and then dropping out at the captcha? Just a thought.

if you are using 1.3.7 you can turn on split login,

Well the count is 117 lost carts for yesterday. Could a bot be causing this?
