    1. download works almost fine, this "product" is only for downloading.
I have set it as free since its of no cost. but still when this product is for only download, I still get both shipping and payment checkout. what have I missed?

    2. about the download type, is there another type of download so they recieve it immediately and dont have to go and checkout?

    3. about the download files, that rights do they need to have? 755, 777 or 644?

    thanks

The "download" folder can be the default 755.
The files IN the "download" folder can be the default 644
The "pub" folder needs to be writable ... ie: 777

oh ok, my pub folder was 755, will change it to 777, it still seems to work to download the file though. What is the actual reason pub folder needs to be 777 instead of 755?

    thanks

The "pub" folder needs to be writable so that PHP can create the symlinks used for download-by-redirect.
777 is commonly used to make a folder writable.
Some servers can use 755 if their PHP mode is set for it.
