    Default Quick layout question

I just installed my first zencart with a template I purchased. I've uploaded a few categories and products to get a hang of things.
My problem is that between the header and main three column panel a box appears where the categories are listed in one line. I want to get rid of that box, because the template comes with its own buttons for categories that appear on the left panel. The one that zencart generates in that box just look awful on the site, and don't match the design whatsoever.

Also, on every page there's another box on top of the middle panel where the site shows what page the user's on. I've got the same problem with that. Doesn't match the site's design and looks awful there.

How can I turn off those things being displayed?

    Thanks.

Admin > Configuration > Layout Settings > Categories-Tabs menu and Breadcrumbs.

The cat-tabs is an optional display location that the majority don't use, but the breadcrumbs are an important navigational aid, and I would think twice before permanently disabling them. If the template designer didn't allow for a means to show the user where they are on the site, I don't think very highly of their ergonomic considerations. You would be best off applying some styling to the breadcrumbs to integrate with the rest of the template.

    Speedy,
While gjh42 and others can be fairly accurate in pointing you in the general direction of a fix, you need to remember to provide a link when making a request like this. Using a custom template usually means that the basic Zen items are preserved but can be in a different place on the page entirely.
Help others to help[ you better by providing a link or (if not available) a picture of the problem.

I have to agree with gjh42 re the breadcrumbs issue. While it's okay to turn it off for the front page, it's really something that should be integrated into the site. One of the worst "sins" of web design is to give (or give the impression of giving) the user a "dead end." And while it might SEEM intuitive you can hit a "home" button to go to the front page, or hit the back button, many users like to be able to backtrack just one or two steps (depending on how deep they are into your site) and breadcrumbs are the "standard" for allowing that.
