    Default Custom/Classic Template Problem

When I create a custom template as explained elsewhere, the template or CSS do not appear to be working properly. I just want to use the classic design as a starting point for modification. But when I switch to my custom template the colors are all odd as shown in the jpg attachment. Any ideas as to why it is doing this?

What is the code in your stylesheet in your custom template? (Not the whole stylesheet -- just the code for those sections you're concerned about, color-wise.)

If you use Firefox, you can use the Firebug plug in and examine exactly where in the stylesheet these colors are coming from and make changes.

I use firefox, and installed the firebug plug-in as you mentioned, and it looks like it is using the proper style sheet.
I copied the Classic style sheet exactly so it should look just like the classic, when I switch the template back to the classic it looks fine. I assume the problem is elsewhere, with the template, or some other PHP code.

I read another article about the .htaccess file may be causing the problem, but that does not appear to be the problem either, as I renamed the .htaccess file and it didn't straighten it out.

I'm testing the site behind a protected directory, and I also briefly disabled this to see if this had anything to do with the problem. I would think that these problems would also affect the classic folder.

    I'm stumped.

I've tried many different e-commerce programs and Zen-cart has all the features I need and it would be a shame not to be able to use this program!

That is the /template_default/ stylesheet, which means it is not finding the stylesheet in your custom template folder.
Or else you copied the wrong stylesheet. Try comparing all three (/template_default/, /classic/, and /custom/).

Thanks gjh42 & madmumbler, that was it!

I actually had two problems. Initially I was unable to get the template to properly, so the cart was displaying the default CSS from the default template.

In my sleepless stupor working in the evenings , I was trying different things and one was copying the default style sheet to see if that would make a difference.

I inadvertently left this in my custom folder, and caused the problem thinking the classic style sheet was loading but it was working correctly with the wrong style sheet since it looked the same.

Thanks for the suggestion for using Firebug!!! This is a great help!

Why would anyone want to use IE, with all the great features of Firefox!
