Hello, I'm brand new and I've purchased the Zen book. I've put a shirt on special and everything seems fine except the original price is not crossed out and the sale price is not in red. Is there something I should do to make this happen?

Do you have a site which we can take a peek at? Did you install any other mods or templates?
If you are using a custom template, can you switch back to the original Classic template (assuming you did not make any changes to it) and see if the problem still exists?

I swapped back to the classic green template and now the old prices are crossed out. When I switch back to the template I am using (theme 113), the prices are not crossed out .
Is there some code I need to change in one of the template files? I have also installed another mod - "newsletter_subscribe_v210"
I'm afraid I'm not familiar with theme 113.
I'd suggest you contact the template writer/seller to see how to fix the problem and also whether other changes have been made to the template which may also have disabled normal Zen Cart functionality.

Theme 113 is almost certainly another fine product from our friends at Template Monster.
