so when installing mods you have to install to both ssl and unsecure site?

so is easyer to get the site running on a non secure site fully with all the mods then just copy over to ssl when the site is ready to go live.

was just wondering if ssl server did the installation automatically

An even better method is to choose a hosting company who can configure your hosting account such that your SSL pages are served from the same place that your non-SSL pages come from.
That way you only need to maintain a single set of files, and still get the same secure protection.
Talk to your hosting company about this option. Most good hosts will do this very easily.
