Gift Messages - How to set up?

What's the best way to set up the ability for customers to include a message to their giftee? I want to keep the comments box in the checkout for feedback/questions about the store - not for gift comments.

I tried setting up a separate gift message "product" with a text attribute, but that only provides one line. I gave the line settings to accept say 1000 characters, which worked, but it did not retain any returns or the text after a return. Also, the format is still just one line - not a memo like form box.

Potentially I would like this message box to show up in the shipping info page so that it correlates to who they're sending it to. If they're shipping it to someone other than themselves, they could write their gift message write there.

I would assume this would be a very common, useful feature for merchants to cater to their customers who are purchasing items as gifts. Thoughts?

Edit the Option Name where you see the note ...
NOTE: Edit Product Options Name for additional settings

You will find Row settings there and can change from 1 row to 5 rows to switch from an input box to a textarea ... and you can limit how many characters are allowed as well ...

Thanks for the update that editing setting for the rows in the Product Option Manager was able to switch from a text input box to a textarea box ...
