PC Configurator Module [Support Thread]

thanks but if I have different products with different options for each one - example business cards have certain order options and brochures have totally different order options - is that possible to do with this configurator? Wouldn't I need a different configurator for each product? Or is there a way to have products as the main selection and auto-update all other configuration options based on the product selection?

Well this is an issue, but as I mentioned in another POST , PC Configurator is going to be developed as a general product configurator.

As these uploaded versions are for testing, you can not use it in a working shop as a general product configurator.

These testing versions are uploaded, so users can test it so we can fix as many bugs as we can.

As I mentioned, this module is being developed every day.

First, my ideas were completely different how to start.

Then I though I should be based on attributes, but as it would be complicated, I thought I'd better try to write a new module.

As I mentioned when I started, we ( some of this forum users ) should make a team and synchronize our actions.

Now, everybody downloads the module and trying to make it work with his own way.

This would solve particular problems.

But we should be based on a different model of work.

TEAM WORK.

This way, we should synchronize our actions, so we can have the option to uninstall older version all together, and try the new one, or fix the bugs together etc etc.

You know my friend, all these happens because, most users just try to find something to download and use in their shop or in their client's shops.

Just think, ( reffering to all community, not you ; I just took this opportunity ) that behind Zen Cart and this forum, and all other functions behind this web space named Zen Cart, there are people that work; have spend so many hours of their lives for what ?

One way is to DONATE, and if you do not have just a little money for this purpose you can help the community with other ways.

The way I choosed, is to try to write a module, or just to give an idea if I did not manage to do it well.

So, the point is :

Synchronize between eachother.

If someone wants to help this way I suggest to make a "TESTING TEAM" for this module, instead of POSTING again and again without our POSTS have any particular "value". We are going to loose the order of what we are trying to do this way.

Does anybody want to participate in a "TESTING TEAM" - "DEVELOPING TEAM" ?

Please inform the community. The reason is worthable and the result will be too.

The first version of PC Configurator is going to be uploaded in the next 1-2 days.

It's almost done and testing in topic server and online.

There have been some additional things.

Only left some check for compatibility between pc parts.

In UNINSTALL_SQL_PATCHES.zip file there are instructions included.

Just a fix and addition in language files and a fix in OLD Testing version Uninstall SQL Patches.

Unzip and upload as follows :


1. pc_configurator_defines.php

goes to -> your_shop/includes/languages/english/extra_definitions


2. pc_configurator_defines_admin.php

goes to -> admin/includes/languages/english/extra_definitions


In shop language file, I also wrote a Greek translation and I forgot to comment it.

English defines were commented, so I commented them out and I commented Greek translation.


In admin language file, I added some more specific instructions to show for the embeded module Popup Window Info.

New version, meaning the first official version of PC Configurator have included the following in a package :

1. An override to show product information without showing HEADER, FOOTER, LEFT AND RIGHT COLUMNS when customer clicks on Product Details link.


2. New module in admin, to produce popup windows, to provide extra information to the customers qyickly and easily. You create them once, change their content quickly and easily and activate them or disactivate them with a click. This module, based on ez-pages do the following:

If you create a popup window to show in specific category ( PC Configurator categories only and ovveride product info file ) when customer clicks on Product Details link , if your window is activated it opens to show to the customer the extra information.

It is very easy to create it in admin. You select the category to show from a drop down list, then you select dimensions ( 8 choices ) for your window from a drop down list again, you select if it will be active or not active and then you write the content ( HTML area shows if you have activated it in admin ).

This new fuction is located in admin menu : Admin -> Tools -> PC Configurator Popup ^Info

3. Included the module Zen Lighbox 1.3 which is functioning only as override in the override file product_info_pc_configurator page ( using file tpl_product_info_pc_configurator_display.php ) to display images with a vary nice way. There is not any problem even if you have this module installed or not because it overrides the way you use to popup product images.

If you have any trouble with Uninstallation or new Installation of PC Configurator, please feel free to POST here, or contact me directly at [email protected] or send private message.

Please inform the community ( POST HERE ) for any bugs but also provide information such as your zen cart version, and any server information ( if you have ) . Also provide info about modifications you have made in your code ( if any ) and also which modules you have installed.

This is very important because many users concluded that some modules create conflicts.

Also, providing such information, it is becoming easier to get help if you have any trouble.

<b>I am still waiting for new ideas</b> such as new functions for PC Configurator, so I can proceed to the next version, and also include parts compatibility check so you do not let your customers make any wrong choice when configuring their Custom Personal Computer. This way you can also increase your sales !!

Next programmed module after PC Configurator will be :

A new module to let you create your own module.

This idea came to me, when I realized that there is too much code in Zen Cart which could be categorized and used to give users the opportunity to create modules based on their ideas.

Many users, do not write code because they do not know the language. But most of them would at least try to create something if it was designed in graphical interface.

So I believe starting categorizing Zen Cart code in subrutines and take advantage of the override system, it is a good start for the idea of starting developing such a module.

I also believe that this way, modules could be packed easily through admin area. The function of using subrutines to create such modules, could be used this way so it could create files id's and this way could be packed from the user in a FGUI in admin.

i´m from Portugal and i created this zen cart from scratch and with the help of all zenners, foruns and people like you. I realy apreciate all the contributions and help in my learning trought php and zen cart tecnologie.

I instaled your tool on my site, folowing your instructions, and after i done the sql patch the message was "121 processed"... in your instructions only mencioned 60, but it was ok. After that i went to produts categories and the categorie "PC Configurator" was not created, it doesnt apear in any place!!!

What files should i modify to create a Portuguese (PT) translation?

Other question is the layout, or the css, as you can see in this link
the configurator is out of my original layout. What files should i modify to set a especific with, so it doesnt mess with the right sideboxes of the page?

I just changed the language in admin to english and the categories apears in there.
I still could not fix the style issue.
