Well duh. In what way do you suppose that answers my question?
I don't like to be rude but the level of non-answers here is over the top. I am not willing to once again ask the same question over and over again hoping that you will make an honest effort to read the actual question instead of answering some other question you suppose it to be.
Is it more rude for me to point out that your responses are typically useless or for you to typically ignore the question with some non-responsive canned promo hype about how wonderful the software is?
Rather than telling people that "if you want it to work you need to do it right" how about telling them something they don't know? Like how to do it right? Actual instructions instead of platitudes and obvious generalized sound bites that try to deny there is a problem?
I'll rephrase it one more time and if you don't answer I'll give up. I don't have time for your evasions and non sequitur responses. (That's all I've ever gotten here so I am entitled to that characterization.)
The listing order of categories within the main menu header is controlled by the sort order as shown on the admin page with the "Categories / Products - Top" header. I have edited the values and observed the results.
The listing order for the products listed under a particular category is controlled by the sort order as shown on the admin pages with the "Categories / Products - (category name)" header. I have edited the values and observed the results.
From that page, if I click on a product within that Category listing I go to a specific product_info page. There is a line of text telling me the product is #i of j products. This order is alphabetical by product name. Is there any way to change the order that the pages come up when I click the "previous" and "next" buttons?
What controls the order that the product pages are displayed in as you click the previous and next buttons?
It is a simple question and if you cannot answer ("no, you cannot change the prev/next sort order" would be an answer) then I will know for sure that you aren't trying. You are clearly smart enough to understand the question, but I am smart enough to know when someone refuses to answer a question. Why you take that approach I do not know.
Sorry you took offense to what I thought was a clear answer to setting the Sort Order in each section based on where you needed it ...
Let me attempt to spell this out to you more specifically and see if that helps you ...

Nice summary!
It does not answer my question.
You never answer the actual question.
Did you read my question? It's in the big black letters.
I do not use the All Products, Featured Products or New Products functionality.
Which part of your answer addresses the previous/next button functionality of looking at product info pages in a sequence which I wish to control?
I conclude that the answer is "that is the default behavior and you have to write code to change it" which would be a perfectly good answer but one you folks seem forbidden to write.
I am not going to once again keep rephrasing my question. I give up.
No wait I found the answer:
config/Product Info/Previous Next Sort Order
You didn't know that? As if.
That's the game here then? You guys are a piece of work.
Which part did you not comprehend?
You want to change the Sort Order for the Product _info page ... correct?
Could you try setting that setting as I posted for you?
Does it now sort in the order of the products_sort_order when you set that setting?

I'm using 1.3.9f. This was driving me nuts, too, and the more I read, the more frustrated I got until I couldn't understand any of the advice here. But finally, the ah ha moment. You choose how to set prev/next in Admin>Config>Product Info>Previous Next - Sort Order. There are six options.
If none of the six options is what you want, you can manually set the order for each product in Catalog>Categories/Products>(Your Category)(Your Product) using Sort Order at the bottom of the page.
Then under the Admin>Config>Product Info>Previous Next - Sort Order, select option 6 Product Sort Order in the drop down menu and it will use the order you set product by product.
When nothing is making sense, it's time to quit for the day.

Hi, I'm using ZC 1.3.9g and Product Filter from Contus Support Interactive.
I followed the install instructions and just copied the two files to my server, overwriting the files already there.
The filters work like a charm, however the product sort order set in admin does not work. It seems as when the product listing page is accessed, the default sort order is now from oldest to newest product.
Is it possible to get the default sort order from admin on the product page as default?
When I uncomment:
// $listing_sql .= " order by p.products_sort_order desc, pd.products_name";
Then the sort order is restored, but then the filters don't work.
Any help would be great.
Cheers
Endre
I followed the instructions and changed the default_filter.php as instructed.
But it's not working for me. I read all the comments here, some are still confusing, however.. changing that seemed to help everyone but not in my case.
Please look at my main page crossstitchaddicts.com
I want the newest products to be at the top, not the bottom.![]()
