Category Button Missing

I have read several posts about missing category button. They all seem to work out okay. But I am still missing the category button. Never had it from the initial install. I have re-installed the software twice and still NO CATEGORY BUTTON! I have RED WARNINGS on every one of the 200 plus products I have put in that my inventory is going to be wrong because I have no CATEGORIES set up! Help! I have tried checking the php settings and no go there. Any suggestions? One guy wants me to spend $300 per hour for him to fix my problems with Zen Cart. I would rather donate that to the program and learn how to handle Zen Cart on my own.

Categories hold Products -- OR -- Categories ... not both ...

When the Category has a Product in it the New Category button vanishes ...

When the Category has a Category in it the New Product button vanishes ...

Attempting to run Zen Cart with both Products and Categories in the same Category leads to issues with pricing, searches, displays, etc. etc. etc.

This can be fixed ... and if all that needs to be done is switch all the products from categories_id 0 to another categories_id then it is not a horrible experience ...

But I would really need to see your database and admin to fix this up ... mainly because there are a 101 ways to break the logic ...
