help question Optional Accessories as attributes

I'm stuck. The store I am trying to set up is for medieval and modern crossbows. ( http://www.wyverncreations.com/catalog/index.php ) The crossbows (in this case the modern crossbow: TenPoint Titan TL-7) sell as a package with bottom of the line accessories. I want to be able to upsell to the customer with better, optional accessory choices. The product is marked price by attributes. I have started the pull down list with "Select options here" marked display only.

When I try to add the crossbow to the cart, I get the following message.

    Please correct the following:
On the Option for: Modern Crossbow Accessories You picked an Invalid Selection: Select Options Here

I can't seem to find the answer in the forums or tutorials. Any and all help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

You just need to add one or more real option values to that option name, and add one or more of them to the product, and then you will have the dropdown to select from.

Might change the text to indicate that they are selecting a scope. "Select Scope Options Here" and, what if I don't want a scope?

Sorry I guess I wasn't clear. I already have the drop down box and it has several options listed there. The problem I have is, someone cannot add the base item to the cart without getting the error message. How can I make it so my customer can add a base item to the cart without having to choose one of the upgrades I have listed in the drop down attributes menu?

Make the default "no scope" or something, and *not* "display only".
Or if you want them to make a conscious choice, just add "no scope" as another option in the list.

As many "unconscious" folks as there are out there, I'd make sure they had to make a conscious effort on any choice.

Had a customer from one site complain today that they got an update saying "delivered" and the item was neither on the porch nor in the mailbox.

GOT IT!!! I just changed "select options here from display only and changes the mark up to +0.00 and that solved the problem. Thanks for all the help.

Unless you're happy with the customer being able to accidentally order no scope, you're not quite there.

Ajeh save me from this dilemma long ago. That's what I was trying to pass on.

As your cart is now, I can click add to cart and maybe not have seen the choices. Next, I'm sending you an email wondering why I couldn't order a scope OR that I wanted the Multi-Dot and couldn't find it. You'll also get the "I ordered this scope and it didn't get here with the bow."

Simpley add an option value of "Please Select a Scope." Make it the default and for display purposes only. Also, it needs to be sort order 0.

With this addition, the customer cannot order a bow without selecting which, if any, scope.

Keeps a LOT of from happening.
