Digital downloads

If I only sell digital products I do not need shipping modules.

Can I turn off all the shipping modules without dire consequences?

No need to touch shipping module/s if all products
are downloads..
When entering your digital product.. just set
Product is virtual as Yes, skip shipping address
and always free shipping..set as no, normal
shipping rules..
Ajeh is the wizard re downloads so am sure she
will correct this post if innacurate...

Ok.

Why is it that now after setting up free delivery I try to buy a test download product, go through the shopping cart : step 1 is fine, except that it seems to display shipping address [why?].
Step 2 takes me to Advanced Search, for Heavens sake why?
Can't get beyond this!

I have 1 product, download, free shipping.

i.e.
Downloads are Not Virtual and are Not Always Free Shipping ...
You don't want to have either marked ...
Downloads will auto skip the checkout_shipping on their own ...

Make sure that you have added your downloads to your attributes and that you have the green dot ...

Make sure that your Option Name(s) for the download(s) is either an Option Type for Radiobutton or for Dropdown ...

Make sure your Product has no weight ...

If this Product can be a Download -- or -- a physical product then you will need addtional settings such as set the weight on the attribute to the same weight as the Product but with a - prefix on weight ...

Make sure that if using Radiobuttons that your download is selected ...

When added to the shopping_cart you should see the download too ...
