Newbie-Can't login after install

I installed zencart, but now I can't access the admin page. I have been reading and trying to figure out what all this code is about and I am nearly clueless. the instructions assume we know a lot...nope. Anyway, I'm reading the read mes in the download folder (kept a copy on my desktop). The one for setting up pay pal says to do the following:
"Open your Zen Cart™ Admin page.
Point your cursor at Modules on the menu bar.
Choose Payment from the dropdown menu.
Click the icon on the PayPal IPN row.
Click the Install button."

That seems like I reach it by means of the web browser, but I keep getting page not found errors. I can log in to the "congrats. you have succesfully installed zen cart" page, but no matter how I try, I can't reach the admin area or any other area of my zen stuff except to go into it in ftp. That doesn't get what I need. I do hope someone can help. I am find these forums difficult to navigate or find the info I need. I think I saw a post about someone having this problem, but I can't find it now that I need it. It has taken me most of the day just to find a button to let me post a message here. Most pages don't even have that option.

Are you entering:

or if you have it in a folder

http: // your_domain.com/your_folder/admin

Yes, exactly that, except that I changed the name of my admin folder as directed and put in that name. Of course, in frustration, I also tried "admin" knowing it wouldn't match.

When you did this, did you also change the 2 configure.php files for where "admin" is called out as a path and change this to the new name for this folder?

i.e.

define('DIR_WS_ADMIN', '/admin/');

I did that earlier this afternoon. I have been trying to find that file again to be sure I replaced it with the corrected one. In order to change anything, I seem to have to download it to my desktop, then upload it back to the ftp server. Am I going about this the wrong way? I don't know any other way to do it, but as soon as I finish dinner with DH, I plan to do one of the copies I have and upload it back to the folder..JUST IN CASE... I deleted it or copied over it in all my retries. I was just able to get onto the docs page, just can't get to admin.

There are 2 that you have to edit one each at

/includes

/admin/includes

They are different files but same name - keep them straight

OK, I just checked both of those and the ones on my desktop both have my info in them. Unfortunately, I may have overwritten one because I had so many duplicates and the computer automatically added hyphens and numbers after the duplicates, confusing me on which was which.

I think each document had 3 instances of "admin" that I needed to change. If that is all, I think I have the info right. I still can't reach the admin page. Do you have any other suggestions?

p.s. I forgot to mention, I also downloaded and checked each file again to be sure they were right after I reuploaded them again.

Check as the one at

/includes

is the same file as the one at

/admin/includes

and these are supposed to be different files.
