Dumb question, I know its covered in here, I just haven't found anything explicitly helpful. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

I want to have an Album, with the option to download or have a CD by mail. The download of course would be free of shipping. I'm only selling the whole album, not individual songs. If someone chooses the download option they should be able to download the songs indiviually. I've been messing around with the attributes, but I can seem to get the desired output. Do I need to do these two options as separate items?

Also, if a product is downloadable, why do I have to set a quantity?

At this time, downloads are added separately to a product with 1 download per attribute ...

You are taking it a step further ...

1 CD by mail or ... 17 downloads ...

Normally you would have the 17 downloads 1 per attribute ... but the problem here is you want to offer the downloads as separate files and the CD as a choice ...

But from the sound of it ... you do not want to offer the CD as a choice *and* the 17 downloads of each song ...

This makes a bit of a problem as there isn't an easy method of doing CD -- or -- 17 downloads ...

You could try the checkboxes but there isn't control over what is selected ... ie you cannot force the selection of all 17 download files nor check that the customer selected all 17 downloads ...

Depending on your site ... it might be worthwhile pursuing how to choose CD or Download and have the download select be a group of files and not a single file ...

This is not something that exists, at this time, but it is something that would be fun to write ... but then I have been told I have a masochistic idea of fun ...

It would take some custom coding but it can be done ...

thanks, Ajeh! It makes a bit more sense now. I guess the easiest thing to do is have a picture of the album with a link to purchase a download and another link to purchase the CD. Then those links can simply add the product (CD or download) to their cart.

That would make it easier or look into the add-on for XSell or Cross Sell and that can put together products that you want related ...
