We had this exact same thing happen to an order today. The client wrote <3 in the gift message and the email got truncated at exactly that point. Did you ever figure it out?

I can reproduce this with <3 but not with < (space here) 3 ...

You gave the clue that allowed this to be reproduced ...

There wasn't a space in what you wrote and the other had a space and unfortunately that is how I have been testing it ... up until now when I was suddenly struck by the silly little thought of, what would happen if I typed it like ...
