Upgrade goof - fixing ssl and ........

Ok, just when I thought I had figured it out! My store was almost ready, all I had to do was to figure out the correct shipping.
I realized that I had to do the upgrade (I must've downloaded zencart the day before the patch came out! didn't think to look so soon for an upgrade).

Well, somehow in my state of exhaustion, I think I double clicked and sent the ftp into upload mode. By the time I realized it there were way too many files in my web directory. When I tried logging on to the store it was GONE!!!!!!
Then I went in and reloaded my backup files and deleted all irrelevant files. Now I got my store and site back BUT these two problems....

1. I can't access the checkout on ssl as before. There's quite a hangtime getting to the checkout. When I check the configure.php it has SSl=True
Do I need to call my hosting and have them reapply ssl to the newly reloaded files/directory? Everything works fine as before except for the ssl issue.

2. I keep getting that the configure.php file is writable but when I check it is mode 644. What gives?

It's my birthday today....not much of a birthday present.
I thought I'd be launching the store today.....guess not

Please help me fix my stupid stupid mistake.

Got the SSL working but my host provider couldn't help me with the read/write CHMOD issue.

Here's the error I'm getting on my front page in a red banner across the top.....

Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/content/i/4/t/i4tune/html/CircaStore/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file (read-only, CHMOD 644 or 444 are typical). You may need to use your webhost control panel/file-manager to change the permissions effectively. Contact your webhost for assistance.

I've checked the attributes and it shows 644 (I am Linux hosting). I even deleted and reloaded the file. Switched it to 777 then back to 644. Nothing is working. The error message remains. The webhost cannot help change it nor can he even see it to tell me if it's reading as 644 to him too.
What to do?

The files need to be either 644 or 444 ...

However, some servers will not allow you to set either or both of these settings via FTP so you will need to make the changes in your Control Panel to these files ...

The problem is, the files (both config.php files) are showing they are 644 which is what I've been using the whole time just fine (not 444).

For some reason the shopping cart is not acknowledging that the files ARE 644. Unless there's some stealth mode that it's just showing me 644 but I still need to change it elsewhere? But that doesn't happen does it?

I did check out the "file manager" at my host site (I believe it's equivalent of control panel) but it isn't capable of changing file attributes according to the online support tech.
He directed me to the direct ftp://mydomain.com
I also used Filezilla to check the attributes.

Regardless, anywhere I look it's showing as 644.

I think we're in business.
I changed that one file to 444 instead of 644 and it took off the error message.
The other config (in admin/includes) is 644 but not showing an error message on the front page.

The original setting on both files was 644 and I never got that message previously. Not sure why that is.

Now I'm scared to death to try the upgrade again!!!! That's what got me in this mess in the first place. I have to make sure I'm well rested and able to concentrate fully on the task at hand. Wish me luck!

Who knows? Maybe I'll have this site up and running on my birthday (or close to it anyway) afterall!

Take the time to read through them over the last month to a year ... they are all quite helpful ...

I did find quite a few helpful threads (your included Thank you Ajeh/Linda,).

But I hit another wall last night.
Using WinMerge for the first time to compare the orig files to my shop files, I followed the Sticky instructions on using WinMerge.
I have the listing of files and folders compared that are found to be different but I can only see one side or the other. I don't have a double side by side comparison window. I also don't see anything that looks highlighted. I merely see the entire file or folder and it's contents.
When I double click on a file I'm getting "selected folder exists only in other side & therefore cannot be opened".
So I click "open right side with registered application". This is what opens the folder's contents in a separate window but again, no highlighted differences.

I've searched the forum but can't seem to find anything that addresses this issue.
It's probably so basic that I'm the only idiot that hasn't figure it out!

Afraid that I use Beyond Compare from scootersoftware.com ... it also has a handy FTP compare for what's on your server to what is on your computer ...

Perhaps someone who is a whiz with WinMerge could chime in here and get your display fixed up ...

I think I may add my problem to the Using WinMerge sticky in case someone else can help benefit from my ignorance.

I'm desperate and since I have to learn a program anyway it doesn't matter to me what it is so in the meantime I just loaded up the trial version of Beyond Compare. I'll give it a go and if it's easier for me to figure out then I'll just buy it for later use.

Hopefully one way or another I have enough brain power left to carry me over the finish line. So close... (Have I said that enough already? lol)

I downloaded Beyond Compare trial to see if it makes more sense to me.

But since I received some responses about WinMerge I decided to give it another go first. But while I was picking around I noticed a new choice on right clicking the folder "add to left side" then "compare to left side". When I clicked on these I got Beyond Compare pop up with data that made more sense at first glance.
Side by side comparison, color coded folders, I was able to compare contents in text form. I think I may stick with this. I'll have to pick around tonight for more info.

I still didn't see individual sections of highlighted text differences. I thought that was what I was to look for specifically.
Also, I still need to individually compare the Admin folder to my renamed Admin folder (those both came up as isolated folders obviously because of the renaming).

Thanks for the suggestion Linda. This may work out better for me. Can't wait to try to tackle it tonight.
