Problem 1 - Can't change background colour.

Please help... I have spent over 24hours getting my site to look OK, but there are a few problems still existing.
I want to remove the blue colour from behind the line containing "Home" and "Log In".
Can anyone help me please?

Change the background-color here for both your header questions. If you don't want your footer bg color to change, separate it out into another declaration first.

Isn't it funny how you can have all these wonderful ideas in your head but when you try them they look YUK!!
This was one of those...
Any suggestions for blending the top part of my site and making it look better.
