Can it be done?

Greetings to you all

I wondered if anyone knew if its possible to : assign option name say SIZE, then have the ability to display products based on said option.

i.e. Show me all products with atribute <SIZE = XYZ> , from combo box, in a side bar maybe

There's nothing built in to Zen Cart to do this. But one of the joys of Open Source software is being able to extend it to achieve your own customer requirements. If you have some php knowledge and rudimentary database skills, this shouldn't be too difficult to do.

Well I suppose I do have some rudimentary database skills, but alas, no rudimentary skills in PHP, which is a bit of a shame.
I wonder if anyone has ever had this kind requirement before, it seems quite normal to want to display products by size, especially when things come in all different shapes and sizes as they do. As you can tell, I'm quite new to Zen. I am a little suprised that I can't configure this, never mind.
The other possibilty is that I'm barking up the wrong tree and I need help in understanding how to configure my categories perhaps.
Nevertheless, I appreciate you reply and will nip into Truro for a book on PHP

It is possible to "cheat" and not have to touch code - You could create separate categories for the other the ways you want to display and link all of your products to the alternate sort ... Note: this does have some disadvantages also.

There are about 50 sizes, I think this may be a bit too much.
