Required customer info - changed but still marked as required

I have changed the minimum values for both Telephone # and Birthdate regarding customer details.
Those two fields are no longer required info during account creation (I did test and ignored those fields and did successfully create an account). But the Telephone field is still yellow and both Telephone and Birthdate fields are marked with the red asterisk.

How do I delete the Telephone field? Or at least not have it marked yellow? I don't see a telephone option in Customer Details (although I do see Fax).
And how do I get the asterisks off?

The asterisks are in the language file for the page you're changing.

Are "all" your input fields yellow if you click on them ?
I suspect the issue is a stylesheet thing.
