What version of Zen Cart?
What version of the Linkpoint module are you using? (ie: did it come with ZC, or did you download it separately as an addon?)
Does it work if he only puts "12" instead of "#12" in the line ?

Not directly connected, maybe, but a similar thing can happen with the NoChex (UK-based) payment mod.
NoChex is doing the standard AVS (Address Verification Checking) on the first line of the address only - they take any digits in address line 1 and add them to the digits in the postcode. So (obviously) the AVS check also fails if the customer has a house name (eg 'Dunroamin') on the first line.
