Multiple Category Sideboxes

What would be the best way to create multiple category sideboxes. For instance we would want to have one sidebox with the title "Workout Programs" and then underneath that will be a couple of categories and then we will have another sidebox with the title "Exercise Equipment" and some categories underneath that. We would probably have 4 or 5 sideboxes. What would be the best way to set this up?

Thanks for pointing me there, but that didn't really solve my problem since I am looking to have more than 2 categories. Right now I actually have our site set up to use the documents for another categories sidebox. I need to figure out how to have more than 2 category sideboxes.

Another option I've though about instead of having multiple category sideboxes is to have the top categories always open to show subcategories. I will style the top category name so that it has a distince background to it and then the subcategory name will also have it's own style. I'm just having trouble figuring out how to code it. I've seen posts talking about something similar to the following code:

Top categories can be styled by calling on

a.category-top { color: #001122; }

and subcategories can be styled with

a.category-subs, a.category-products { color: #001122; }

Would the above only style the text, or can I style the background of the text as well with that? Also I tried implementing that into the stylesheet and saw no change to the styling. Any suggestions?
