Strange hovering behavior

Need help identifying a strange behavior when the mouse enters the main wrapper. Notice the text links change color and are underlined and all footer text that is not a link changes colors. I have tried using several style sheets from available templates and they all do the same thing in various degrees of unusablilty. This style sheet behaves the best and the store is live so I have left it. In some cases all text becomes underlined and it is impossible to mouse over text links to see the destination.
The pages all work fine in firefox, this is an IE only issue. Unfortunately when I originally edited the stylesheet I was only verifying with firefox. After many hours of customization I found this problem in IE.

The header is hardcoded html because I don't have time and patience to mess with learning how to do layouts in css. I am praying this isn't what's causing the problem.

At the end of your table for mainWrapper, you have this:

I believe you'll find that is the source of your problems.

You have a heck of a lot of unnecessary code - empty divs and the like. You might consider running a page through HTMLTidy (after you've validated it).
