Default Displaying HTML in order comments

I post a tracking number with a link when I update orders

( update orders_status set comments = 'Order has been shipped with UPS delivery confirmation number <a href="http://wwwapps.ups.com/WebTracking/processInputRequest?HTMLVersion=5.0&loc=en_US&Requester=UPSHome&tracknum=1ZX128V 10350908262&AgreeToTermsAndConditions=yes&ignore=&track.x=18&track.y=13">1ZX128V 10350908262</a>.')

When it displays to the customer in the order status comments, it displays that literally instead of the html I want it to display. How do I get it to display the html?

    Hello,

Your client must have checked to receive emails in HTML and not in TEXT when he signed up.
You can change the default format of the sign up form in the administration under Configuration/Customer Details/Customer Default Email Preference.

Change what you are using to NOT include the <a href>

NOTE: do not include the period right after the URL as that will cause issues for the customer trying to go to that link

I prefer to place the URL on its own line with a blank line above and below it so that it is clear to the customer the full content of the URL ...
