application error Error Message when trying to create account

    Hello.

I'm using Zen Cart version 1.3.02, Server OS: Linux 2.4.33.2, PHP Version: 4.4.4 (Zend: 1.3.0), Database: MySQL 4.0.26 The website is www.joyfulmomma.org/bookstore

    My problem is this:

For the last couple of months orders have basically dropped off (coinciding with my zen cart being hacked), and it appears the only orders I've gotten in the last few months are ones by customers who already have a customer account in my Zen Cart. I couldn't find where the problem was until now, while checking my site after updating the template to match the new design for the rest of my site.

When attempting to create an account, the customer is told to select a country, and no matter what country is selected, an error message appears saying that a country must be selected (even if it is selected).

Here is what I have done thus far: In the configure section, customer details, I have country set to listing United States as default (however, in the store it doesn't show any country as default).

I have gone into includes/languages/english.php and deleted the line with the /'*'/ and the country code, to try to make it non-mandatory, however that didn't work either, though there is no longer an asterisk next to the drop down menu.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

    Blessings,
    Kimberly

I am having the same problem.

My site was recently upgraded from a much older version (last summer) to the latest version.

I lost some data from the first of the year. I was still able to log in ... a customer just emailed me with the same problem.

If I do not put an optional company name in, I get the missing fields comment. If I put in an optional company name, I get the missing country.

    Ugh.

    Any ideas???

It looks like you are not fully upgraded or your template files are out of date ...

If you switch to the Classic Template can you now create an account?

    Okay ... that worked.

NOW what? Seriously ... a friend did my site originally then, when my old host and my site were no longer working together, I changed servers. They couldn't get the site to work either so THEY installed the new version ON THEIR OWN for me to get me up and running.

Where would I look for the problem? I went from a version from last summer ... June ... a new one came out about two days AFTER we were live ... to the latest and greatest.

Thanks for any slow-talking you can do to help me. I can follow instructions ... lol

There are override files for your template ...

One or more of these override files in not updated with the current version of code ... this is causing problems for your template ...

There may also be other problems ...

This is why Beyond Compare from scootersoftware.com is handy as you can compare the original files to your template files and see what is changed or different that is preventing something from working ...

Thanks ... I will give it a try. I am a night owl by nature ... and the kids have gotten on the same schedule and my dd is insisting (well, actually holding me to my promise that when I was done working) I would take her school supply shopping .. I had not planned on a site problem!)

I will work on this in a bit ... is that software fairly straight forward? I will compare the two templates and it will find it?

    thanks for your response, Linda.

when I tried to switch to the classic template, it didn't do anything so I am not sure if I did that right at all. I clicked "insert" in the template manager, but nothing changed.

I am sure I have updated all of these files (that was the main point of the major overhaul I just did on the site), but is there some way to know what files I need to look at in particular?

Also, it is possible that when I was going through resetting permissions on different files after my hack that I caused this problem? I only ask because orders dropped off dramatically after that happened, and appear to only be from those who already had accounts with me.

    thanks for your help.

I have d/l'ed that program to give it a try. Here is my problem: I really do not know what to have it compare or how to do it.

I am thinking I need to compare FILES not FOLDERS (duh, right? lol) but which ones ... and can I set it to compare more than one? The template installed on my site is: My Classic. I d/l'ed that folder and the classic folder as I just couldn't figure out how to compare on the FTP site.

thank you for any help you can offer.

I did as you said...and then uploaded any files that were not upgraded (there were two or three).

Now I have a new problem.

My shoppng cart shows this message:

"Your database appears to need patching to a higher level. See Tools->Server Information to review patch levels."

I went to the Server Information part there and it makes absolututely zero sense to me what I am supposed to do with any of that information....it just appears to be a list of what version everything is. I do'nt know how to write SQL queries (as the other SQL item in my Tools section seems to be for), or what to do in this situation. Please help!!!

I have a large promo that is starting on monday along with some other merchants and I must have this running before then to avoid causing problems for them and me....and it looks like I just made things a lot worse. I put up a "down for maintenence" thin on there for right now.
