revisited the previous solution using the hard coded links and found some of the errors in my own coding.. works like a champ now! thanks for all of your help!!! i just hope the conditional php versions will work.. if not i found a very nasty workaround using some transparent gifs but i'd prefer to keep it clean..

or maybe not.. as soon as i tried to duplicate the code for login i was met with blank space for both items.. even after deleting the second instance of the code my original code will now no longer seem to function and for the life of me i can't figure out why... this has to seriously be the most frustrating mod to zen cart i've experienced yet!!
