Right & left column differences, plus center issues`

Hello folks!
I've been hunting for answers on these issues, but have come up emptyhanded. I have 2 issues with my css that I've been so far unable to resolve to my satisfaction:

1) the left and right columns are noticeably different. Originally, the text was different colors as well (found that & fixed it), but now there's extra 'purpleness' on the left that I just don't want there -- The right side is, well.... right

2) The nice, fat banner across that says "new products for August"... needs (desperately) to not have black text on dark purple. Can't locate the control in the css for that.

Ideally, I'd like to tone down the depth of the purple color a *little*, but there are so many different permutations of the color I'm just not certain which would be more monitor-friendly.... so suggestions are appreciated.

I was suspicious that was the offending code for the sidebox issue, but I'm always hesitant to delete things without checking

I'm not completely sure how/where to add the centerBoxHeading color -- I've tried what appeared correct, and it hasn't made a change.

Cancel that.
Kiddo (although they deleted their reply) gave me enough information to find where the other correction needed to go.
