EZPages Not Showing in Sidebox, Tried Everything.

Hey, just having a bit of problems getting the sidebox for ezpages to work. I can get them to show in header fine, but they won't show in sidebox (the sidebox won't appear at all but I'm assuming that's because it doesn't seem to see any ezpages).

I have read the faq thuroughly, and read about a dozen posts on the topic. So here is what I have done so far:

- Checked if I had updated version, currently running 1.3.7.1 with database up to date (this is a fresh install, never been upgraded)
- Go to side box manager, and turn on the ezpages sidebox, and set it's sort order to 50
- Go to ezpages settings and make sure everything is enabled
- Check maximum values and make sure ezpages is set to 20
- Add an ezpage, name it, set sidebox to yes, and give it a sort order of 1
- go back to site. No ezpages sidebox is showing
- Go back and edit the ezpage, setting header to yes, and sortorder to 1 (leaving sidebox also set)
- Go back to site, now it shows in header, but not in sidebox
- Go to admin, and switch template to classic. Go back to site, look, and ezpages sidebox is displaying.
- Switch back to my template (based on the darkness template downloaded from this site) and ezpages sidebox not showing.

I checked in my template folder, under includes/templates/darkness/
in common I have tpl_footer and tpl_header overrides
in css there are stylesheet.css, stylesheet_css_button and print_Stylesheet
in templates I have tpl_product_info_display (I customized it so dropped it into the overrides)

So there should be nothing in my template that is disabling that sidebox... What am I missing here?

I have done view source and searched for ezpage and found only the bof/eof tags for the ezpage header.

At one time, two ezpages in a sidebox were required for them to show.
Not sure if that's still the case, but you might try it to see if
that triggers the ezpage sidebox.

**Edit** Nevahmind. You said it's working in classic.

Also I just added a second ezpage just to be 100% sure that wasn't the issue. There are now 2 pages active with sidebar set to yes, and a sortorder of non-zero. Tested both in header and both work, tested with classic and it works in sidebar, but nothing in sidebar in my template still...

When set to your template, if you look in the Tools ... Layout Boxes Controller ... is the ez-pages sidebox ON?

Yes it is turned on in both places. I confirmed all the settings I posted in my original post in my template (I should have specified that) :)

All the troubleshooting was done in my template. The only part I did in the classic template was switching to it for a second to see if it works, and it did.

work fine. Hmmm.....

Yes, the sidebox indicator is green for both ezpage documents I have written. And both show a sort order number that is not zero (it is 1 for both of them I believe)

I also just tested by setting them to 1 and 2 respectively (to check if having the same sort order number was throwing it off) but that didn't work either.

As I said, just switching to classic, they are there, switch back to mine, they are not there. The only alterations I have made to the template are in the footer, header, and product info page... Only minor alterations. And that template doesn't seem to have any files that affect the ezpages display at all anyway, that stuff is all in template_default, which I haven't altered...

This is getting rather frustrating :)

So any other ideas on this? Are there specific files responsible for rendering that sidebox? any lines of code I should check? Database entries I should check?

This is the last thing I have to get working on this store and it is finished. Then the client just needs to input their content and products. I REALLY want to get this wrapped up :) (I hate it when a site is left hanging with one or two features not quite working right) lol :)

Check your Admin/Tools/Layout Boxes Controller and make sure the
EZ Pages sidebox doesn't have the same sort order as another sidebox.

Other than that, I'm stumped as to why it would work in Classic and not
with Darkness. :blink:

Lol I thought you were on to something with that. I checked and it did have the same sort order as the information box (they both had 50) so I changed the ezpages to be 55....

No luck... Still not working...

Ok. I think I found the problem. But I still haven't actually solved it.

Somehow when I update my layout boxes settings it doesn't actually change anything.

When I am on the darkness template and I make changes to layout boxes (change position, toggle them on or off) none of those changes actually take effect.

If I switch to classic, they don't work either. But when I switched template and went to the layout box controller, it said it detected all new boxes.

So I went to the database. and there were entries in the layout boxes table for darkness and classic, and another set of entries with NULL in the template field. I notice that if I delete these, and go back to the layout boxes page in admin it recreates them. If I make changes (no matter what template I am in) it edits the NULL template boxes. So I went and ran a query to drop everything (Except the template defaults) from that table, and then recreated my settings. Went back to the table, and ran a query to update all rows with null in the template field to be darkness in template field. And now the page displays what I wanted it to...

So basically the admin thinks my template name is "null" even if I change the template back and forth in the template chooser, the layout boxes control still thinks the template is "null"

But the frontend of the site, still looks in the right place for the layout box settings.

The reason it worked in classic and not darkness is because that just happened to be what classic was set to allready.

So I still don't know the actual cause of this problem. But I have at least worked around it for now. Any help on solving the root problem itself would be much appreciated though :)

when you create a ezpage did u make sure you gave them a number setting (order number like 1-2-3-4-5-etc.)

Glad you tracked it down. Hoping someone can give you some insight into
why this is happening and how to fix it.

I struggled with this problem for a couple hours tonight.
Fresh install of v1.3.8a, darkness template, and ezpages not showing up no matter what I did.
I went into the database (hoping pmumby's post would help) and all the darkness records were there in the layout_boxes table, so my answer wasn't there. I tried a few things, nothing worked, so I set them all back.
I went through every configuration area related to ezpages, all set correctly.

The thing that eventually got it working was to go into Tools -> EZ Pages,
Edit an item, and change the "Order:" for Sidebox from 0 to 1.

Maybe I'm a doof for missing this when I actually created the ez-page, but it was easy to miss. I thought just turning it from No to Yes would make it active alone.
Only my second ZC install. still learning...
