But my template is no longer working, it doesn't show all side boxes etc in the page, is this common or am i doing something wrong?
When you install a template (or change it), all your boxes are reset causing them to be turned off. You have to go to the "Layout Boxes Controller" and rearrange them again. Maybe that's your problem?
