Adding restrictions to coupon?

hi

im having trouble adding restrictions to the coupons, any tips would be gratefully received :)

Also the coupon discount checker dont seem to be working, any ideas why?

1) Make sure you activate the Discount / Coupon module from within the Admin:

Modules > Order Total > Discount Coupon


2) Make sure you setup your coupons correctly. If the above is on, and your discounts are not working, chances are you setup the restrictions wrong (assuming you are using them from reading your post).

What type of restriction are you looking to apply?

thanks for helping, im looking to issue coupons that can be used for certain categories only etc

For category restrictions do the following:

From your coupon admin

(Gift Certificates / Coupons > Coupon Admin )

Create and insert your new coupon (save it). In this first step, do NOT select anything for the drop down "restrictions" box -- just create the other variables for the coupon and save it.

Next, you'll see any coupons you have created listed in the admin screen.

To the right you'll see a list of buttons.

One of those buttons says "Restrictions".

Select the coupon you want to add category restrictions to, and click the "Restrictions" button.

You'll be brought to a screen where you can select the categories etc.. that the coupon should only apply to.

Select your restrictions and "Add".

You're all set.

Okay I tried to do this....I have my coupon made, then set the restrictions and when I add this product and another product from another section I use the coupon and the discount is taken off of both products (free shipping)! It should only be free shipping for one of the products.
I have tried to deny all other categories but it still gives free shipping to everything!

Let me clarify what I have

Cat. Restrict.
Prenatal Cradle allow
Top Cat deny

then I have also tried allowing a particular product

but that didn't work either.
