I need a cart to work via model numbers instead of item numbers. My inventory changes every day. and I clear the inventory and reload it daily. This means that item numbers change daily but model numbers do not. Is there anyway to make the cart use model numbers for everything instead of item numbers? My model numbers are alpha numeric. What would happen if I make the item number field a character field?

Please don't suggest that I delete items and add items instead of what I'm doing. because that's not feasible under my current methods.
