"Products cannot be added" due to subcategories

I am setting up my store and have made a few categories which show up in the left column and along the top under the header. When I go to catalogue > products/categories I cannot seem to add individual products in the categories.

I have the New category button visible but there is no new product button ...... instead it says "NOTE: Category has SubCategories Products cannot be added"

I am going to be selling custom digital art and only need a couple of products listed under each category.

Not too sure what I have done and I have tried to find the answer in Wiki and the support forums to no avail.

Anyone know what I have done wrong?

oh good grief, I feel dumb now, NM! I hadn't clicked on any category to add products to it.

But now I have a different issue.... when I click on add product I get a 404 error from my host server saying "The requested resource could not be found." Install issue? We just did a clean install on the 22nd last month. Version 1.3.7 and patch version 1.3.7

You already have subcategories added to the categories you are trying to put products in. Zen Cart will not always work reliably with products and categories in the same category, so this safeguard has been added.

You need to make sure that you have gotten into the actual subcategory where you want the products, and are not somehow still one level above it.

OK, glad to see you got that part sorted.
Unfortunately, I don't know what would be causing the 404 beside some file not loaded correctly.

thanks Glenn, I was thinking it might be a missing file too, can't think of anything else it could be.
