Admin-configuration no access

Hi all
I hope somebody can help me here,

Right basically i checked my site the other day and the site was coming up with the message along the lines of i can write to the configuration file, therefore i changed the file permission to how it should be, that sorted that problem. (444)

Now im having a similar problem going to admin-configuration, it then comes up with on every setting under configuration
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. with a 404 page header shown.
Now my host had a few problems but they insist that it should not of caused this matter, if a host goes does for a couple of days, can it reset your file permissions on files like the includes-configure.php file (above)
And would it cause this problem, has anybody had this situation before and help me to sort it out.

not to worry, ive checked all the way through the admin folder through ftp and all file permissions had changed to 777 which stopped it working somehow, does anybody know if my host was down and reset would this happen, they was hacked, so could this lead to my site?

If your host had been hacked, then any number of things could cause problems.

- a hacker might have changed your files or their permissions
- your host might have reset permissions everywhere on the server in order to "clean up"


Your best reaction would be to treat your site as if it had been hacked:
- evaluate ALL files and folders on your site manually
- verify ALL file/folder permissions settings
- make sure you have good functional regular backups of files and database, not only for recovery purposes but also for comparison purposes to find out what might have been messed with
