removing DOB as requirement for account setup?

I'd like to know how to remove the DOB field as being required to setup a new account on my shop. I find this a little too invasive and unnecessary. Can someone let me know what files I would need to edit to do this without breaking anything?

admin > configuration > customer details ...turn off what you don't want; if you want fields to NOT be mandatory, then go to admin > configuration >minimum values and set appropriate ones to 0
