help question Using Flat Rate shipping, add cheaper option for selected categories/products?

    Hi Zenners,

OK for most of my items I just have UPS / FedEx at a flat rate of $29, and that is what I will continue to have.

However, for selected categories / items only, such as accessories and memory cards, I want to offer the option of Registered Air Mail for half the cost at $14

Maybe also a qualifier that if there are multiple accessories to over $300 in value then don't offer registered air mail either

At the moment I have just been using the UPS / FedEx flat rate (I don't need the UPS module or anything like that, I want to keep shipping simple)

I want to add this cheaper registered air mail option for those categories

    How do I do this?

I have mucked around with the table rate but no luck? I am in Australia where we don't use pounds so would prefer pounds not to appear

Actually what I would really prefer is to have these options:
    For USA and Canada
    - FedEx / UPS - US$19.99 Flat rate
    - Reg Air Mail - US$9.99 (offered only for accessories and memory categories, only orders under $300)

    For Australia and New Zealand
    - AU$29.99 FedEx / UPS Flat rate
    - AU$14.99 Reg Air Mail (offered only for accessories and memory categories, only orders under $300)

I could do this by making the exchange rate 1USD = 1.5AUD but that would distort all the prices, I would rather do this way so that US/Canada shipping is slightly cheaper, I am still not sure how to add the registered air mail option only for some categories/products??
I am pretty confused with Zones and all that so would really appreciate some help on exactly how to get this going

    regards,
    Dave

    Any ideas anyone?

Basically for my expensive product categories I want to offer my flat rate FedEx / UPS only
For the cheap products I want the flat rate FedEx / UPS to be offered but customers should see an additional choice for Registered Air Mail if only buying products from those categories?

Also, I am getting way too many orders requesting shipping to NIGERIA and VIETNAM from stolen US and Australian credit cards,
I can't really block these at PayPal because the scammers enter the confirmed USA address and so it goes through PayPal no worries, only problem is at my site they have put a VIETNAM/NIGERIA address as the delivery address.
So far I have just manually cancelled and refunded but it is getting out of hand now, I know the Zones shipping method can give a message that we do not ship to that country but it still allows them to proceed.

Can I block users from other countries? Or better still maybe require their account to get manual approval?
Trouble is they will sign up with a USA address and then add a Nigerian delivery address with some BS story like 'this is a gift for my cousin'
Bottom line is if Delivery address is to Africa, south America, Nigeria, Vietnam, Indonesia I want to block it, I do not want them to be allowed to proceed to paypal and send me stolen credit card funds which gets me in all sorts of trouble

    any help??

You could use the Per Unit perweightunit Shipping Module where the products_weight is the shipping cost ...

Then, clone the module for the different zones and alter the unit charge from 1.00 to 1.5 or what have you to alter the charges based on products ...

Or, you can build a products_shipping table and enter in separate rates per person ...

help question Re: Using Flat Rate shipping, add cheaper option for selected categories/products?

    Hi Linda,

Thanks, that sounds a bit complicated to implment all I really want is:
Flat Rate Shipping for all orders $29.99 via FedEx / UPS
This is all that is currently offered.

BUT for orders that only include items in a particular category, i.e. small items that can be posted so we are talking my accessories category etc, I want to add the additional option of Registered Air Mail for $14.99

    Any ideas anyone?

For the cheap products I want the flat rate FedEx / UPS to be offered but customers should see an additional choice for Registered Air Mail if only buying products from those categories?
