Default A SSL / Hacker Safe Question

Ok. I know its long overdue. I have to get a ssl certificatre for my site.
However I want to know. How important is it to get the highest level of security.
The one that gives you a green url at the top. Or is there one that will just give you a little lock. Which company is the best to use latly?

Someone told me they just use hacker safe. Displays their Icon and that would be enough. Well that sounded all well and good. However they want alot more then what a ssl cert costs...

Would just like to get some advice before I plunk down my credit cart...

    Milo

Buy ssl from well-known companies only. It makes you look more professional.

Normally ssl costs only 50usd/year, which is quite cheap (I'm using GeoTrust, don't buy directly on their site since it's more expensive for some reason).

Some argue that a HackerSafe logo make your customers feel safer and thus increases conversion rate, I'm not so sure though.

Hacker Safe and SSL Certs are two different things. The former is to show people the Server has passed a certain level of security whilst the latter is to show Vistors their information entered will be encrypted.

GoDaddy.com offers Certs at $50 yr. or less and are quite satisfactory for the majority of sites. I'm sure there a lots of places to purchase a Cert from but GoDaddy comes to mind as those are the ones we offer to our Clients and also use ourselves.

The $20 yr. Cert would probably suit you just fine.

Important to remember is that a Cert is issued to a "specific" Domain name.
"www.domain.com" is not the same as "domain.com"

Using the "www" in a Domain name is not required and most people don't use it anymore. Up to you to though.

Which ever type of domain you use (with www or not), you have to set htaccess so that all the visitors will be automatically redirected there.

I think he means that I have to change the settings in my config files.

I'm thinking about the "Hacker Safe" they say I will get a link on their site which will generatre traffic and that sales typically rise 10% or more.

They want $99 a month on a subscription bases.
Does anyone have any experiace with them? Positive or Negative?

I'm saying that, whichever type you want to use (with or without www), you have to be consistent. Lets say you decide to go with the non www type, you have set up your htaccess file, so that when a customer access you at www.yoursite.com, he/she will be redirected to yoursite.com (without the www)
