Different shipping fee for different product

Is it possible to set a different shipping fee for different product or product category?

The Shipping Module for the Per Unit perweightunit utilizes the products_weight as the actual shipping price for the individual products ...

NOTE: be sure to adjust the Shipping/Packaging settings to allow for the high values that can result because of this ...

My products actually weigh the same and I am charging flat shipping fee.

The real difference is that some products are prescription and others are over the counter so they are easier to process.
Is there a way to hardcode that such and such category has a shipping charge of $5 and another category has shipping charge of $8?
Would it be possible and easier to do it using handling fee?

As in could you add the products_weight as 5.00 and 8.00 respectively and use the Per Unit perweightunit shipping module to manage this for you?

You have an interesting suggestion but I am charging $5/8 for the first product in the category and then $1 for each additional one so I am not sure if your suggestion will work.

Nope you are wanting the opposite of how perweightunit works ...

And unfortunately the shipping_weight is a sum total passed to the shipping module(s) so you cannot utilize this method backwards ...

You could, however, write your own shipping module for this kind of calculation ...
